How to Combat Acne

Acne is a skin disorder caused by the inflammation of the skin glands marked by pimples especially on the face. Acne occurs upon the increase of glandular activity with the glands secreting more oil than usual, leading to the entrapment of oil under the skin. When the oil is trapped under the skin, the glands break and spill sebum or fatty lubricants to irritate the skin and subsequently form pimples. Millions of people around the world suffer from acne yearly. They include 40 to 50 million Americans, mostly teenagers and young adults, whose skin disorders have been traced to various causes and factors. Among these are age, genetics or origins, skin types, hygiene and environment.

Acne is treatable and curable by various ways, as are foods to fight pimples and even scarring. Some of the steps that can combat the skin disorder include: (a) Practicing good hygiene, (b) Visiting local beauty shops or stores for skin care products, (c) Consulting a doctor for good anti-acne products, (d) Taking laser or light therapy, which can be new to acne treatment in your area, (e) Taking herbs as a natural remedy that can be good for your skin, and (f) Taking over-the-counter medications, if possible, like retinoids that are made from Vitamin A, and antibiotics to treat your skin. Some foods that are effective in fighting acne include carrots, that are essential to healthy skin since they contain Vitamin A. Grains are also sources of B vitamins like B6 that controls oil on the skin, B5 that helps deal with acne-causing stress, and B1 and B2 that help acne prevention. Some dermatologists recommend oysters being the richest source of zinc that heals damaged tissues and helps prevent acne scarring. The other foods that help combat acne are fruits and vegetables, soy milk, garlic juice, lemon juice , Vitamin A and zinc foods, and high-fiber foods that include soybeans, whole wheat, and bamboo shoots.

Scars and discoloration of the skin are the big risks of acne that one can encounter. Like the acne itself, however, scars and discoloration can be treated with a dermatologist, or even at home. Acne should first be controlled, otherwise, there is the possibility for scars to reoccur. To treat scars, you should use microderm abrasions, which are administered by many dermatologists, and involve removing the upper layer of the skin with the use of a special abrasion tool. There are products of hydroxy acids that are skin exfoliants and can do away with the dead upper layer of the skin. For superficial scarring and discolored skin, lemon juice can be applied to the affected area. Honey is said to decrease the appearance of acne scars with the application of honey exfoliant, honey scar softener, and honey scar mask. Some scars called purple acne scars that result from post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation can also be removed by the application of cucumber juice or a mixture of sour creams, yogurt, ground oatmeal, and lemon juice. The appearance of the so-called rolling acne scar can be improved by collagen, hyaluronic acid and silicone fillers.

If high-fat foods can be blamed for promoting sebaceous or fatty glands, the best thing to do to prevent acne is to avoid these high-fat stimulus foods such as hams and sausages and other preserved foods, as well as chocolates , coffee and alcohol drinks.
