Lymphatic Drainage

The lymphatic system is the component of the human body that is greatly responsible for its health and well being.  It takes care of the responsibility of removing the interstitial fluids from the body tissues and it also absorbs fats and fatty acids and transports them to the circulatory system.  The lymphatic system is of such importance that many common and minor body pains and aches could be attributed to a lethargic and listless condition of this system.

Lymphatic drainage aims to promote a healthy and vigorous lymphatic system.  It is intended to help keep the lymphatic system flowing smoothly throughout the entirety of the body and to keep the body free of toxins and other pollutants.
With the use of lymphatic drainage, the motion of the lymphatic system through the circulatory system is greatly increased and profoundly improved.  With this great increase in flow, the immune functions of the body are correspondingly enhanced as well.  Many harmful substances that are damaging to the body are easily removed from the many bodily tissues and sent to the lymph nodes where they are neutralized.  Furthermore, the increase in the flow of the lymphatic system also increases the manufacture of the lymphocytes, thus further increasing the capabilities of the body’s immune system.

Lymphatic drainage involves a massage that is usually performed on the patient by a lymphatic drainage professional.  This massage is thoroughly focused on certain lymph nodes on the body as well as other parts that may be impeding the natural and smooth flow of the lymphatic system.  Most of the proponents of this kind of therapy firmly believe that this method is a very effective way of reducing, and even eliminating, the obstructions present in a sluggish lymphatic system.  This eventually leads to a healthier and more energetic body.

When problems occur in the lymphatic system, such as major blockages, the lymph nodes may be adversely affected and cause them to swell and puff up.  These blockages may also cause the proliferation of toxins in the body and even affect the body’s white blood cells.  To help counter this situation, lymphatic drainage therapy is used to effectively loosen these blockages and allow for the continuous operation of the lymphatic system.  Once this is done, not only will the lymphatic system be able to better perform its function, the other systems of the body such as the respiratory system, the circulatory system, and even the muscular system will be able to perform much better as well.  Thus, an offshoot of lymphatic drainage therapy can be the reduction of cramps, better immunity to viruses and colds, and better reactions to allergies.

Lymphatic drainage therapy and massage can also be very useful in treating patients with physical injuries suffered in sports and other similar activities.  After the initial stages of inflammation have passed, and after some sports massages have been applied on the injured body part, some lymphatic drainage therapy can be done.  The lymphatic drainage therapy can help clean up the injured tissues of harmful debris and also help in enhancing the tissue regeneration process for faster healing of the injury.
