Humidifiers: Take care of the atmosphere and your respiratory tract

During the summer, it is inevitable for us to take a bath more than once a day, drink as plenty water as we can, turn on the fan or air conditioning unit for hours, or stay at commercial establishments just for us not to feel the heat. Even if this is the case, some people prefer to stay at home and just wait until a rare cool breeze passes them by. Now, there is one way to keep your homes cool by increasing humidity through the use of humidifiers. These humidifiers will help keep moisture in the air inside your homes, helping you and your respiratory system healthy, and your environment as well.

In general, humidifiers can be classified into two: warm mist humidifiers and cool mist humidifiers. As you can infer from their categories, warm mist humidifiers use warm mist or heat for it to work, while cool mist humidifiers produce otherwise. Aside from that, warm mist humidifiers have higher energy cost as compared to the cool mist humidifiers, as they use steam to produce their water vapour output. Both have advantages and disadvantages when used to humidify our homes. That is why we have to look into their properties in order for us to know which product would care for our environment and selves as well.

Warm mist humidifiers, also called Steam Humidifiers, boils the water inside the reservoir and releases steam into the air. This steam released into the air provides moisture inside our homes. Not only can one use water with this type of humidifier, but also a medicated inhalant which is good for people who suffer from asthma, cough, and other respiratory diseases which need proper medication and care. An advantage of this type of humidifiers is that microorganisms and bacteria would less likely contaminate the stagnant water in the reservoir and thus, would not float in the air inside our homes. This is due to the fact that the water is boiled, killing the bacteria and inhibiting their growth and reproduction. However, poor design of these products may result to overheating when the boiling process is being done. This may cause the product to start fire, or burn or melt and would endanger the lives of many.

The other type of humidifiers is the cool mist humidifier. There are two kinds of this type of humidifiers – Impeller Humidifier and Ultrasonic Humidifier. The Impeller Humidifier has a rotating disc which lets water fling at a diffuser, which then breaks the water into fine droplets and provides moisture in the air. On the other hand, the Ultrasonic Humidifier has a metal diaphragm which vibrates at an ultrasonic manner which then creates the fine droplets that exit the humidifier and floats into the air as cool vapour. These kinds of humidifiers are safe in terms of fire hazard, but are more prone to development of bacteria and microorganisms. The water inside the reservoir is not boiled and may still contain certain microorganisms which can be harmful when inhaled. At that, it is always best to use distilled water than hard or running water as this may reduce the production of cool mist with the bacteria and microorganisms. Moreover, keeping your humidifier always clean and replenishing the water inside the reservoir would be the best thing to do in order for you to ensure the safety of your home and your body as well.

Having humidifiers at home can help inhibit skin dryness, sore throat, asthma and allergies. Now we have a reason not to worry about our health anymore, as humidifiers are there to help save the day from low humidity and moisture in the air we breathe.
