We may not think about our
feet that often but they’re an essential part of almost everything we do. Some old folks even believe that looking at a person’s feet, whether it’s neat or not can tell one’s personality. Well, it’s not like we have to believe them, but they’re simply telling us that our feet are important. You might be asking of what might happen so bad to our feet if not taken care of the right way. If you think that athlete’s foot is your only problem, well think again.
Obviously, walking and running cannot be done without them. That goes for dancing, biking, swimming and such as well. As you may have noticed, some of us consider running or jogging as a daily exercise and sometimes they experience pain at the back of their leg. For example:
1. Women who usually wear heels every day and who does their morning jogging tend to experience “Achilles tendonitis” and “Haglund’s deformity”. It is because they are wearing high heels daily that when they use their trainers, they’re tendon become stretched and inflamed.
To avoid it from happening, they can use “heel cups” and “heel cradles” for support. They can also lessen their activity; avoid walking or running uphill and the fastest remedy, ice. They can apply ice to their Achilles tendon after exercise to reduce inflammation. It would be bad if women nowadays cannot carry themselves because of simple pain, right?
2. Aside from that; ballet dancers, gymnasts, skaters and runners experience pain too, caused by suddenly increasing their physical activity. It is called, “Sesamoiditis”. It usually occurs when a person exert more stress on their forefoot, this increase pressure to sesamoid bones.
To treat it, one can rest their foot or apply ice to painful area for 10 to 15 minutes
after exercise, or after any activity that aggravates the area. They can also drink aspirin or any ibuprofen medicines that can help reduce inflammation. But of course, aside from that there’s a lot more! We have this common injury that causes pain called, “sprain”.
3. A person who does physical activity most of the time experiences this kind of injury very so often. It occurs when the foot is forced into an unnatural position and a lot of people who exercises experience this.
For prevention, they can wear good practical shoes for the said occasion and anti-slip devices on slippery surfaces. If by chance this happens to you, a fast remedy or as we call first-aid can be ice packs, to reduce swelling. You should rest too and put on some bandage or any compression that will restrict your motion. Try to elevate your foot as much as possible, and see a clinician that can do x-rays for your injury to evaluate the severity of your situation. As much as you can, regularly check your
feet and care for it the right way. Our feet as mentioned, is very essential to us and to avoid such mishaps we need awareness and responsibility.
