Brunch is a portmanteau or a blend of two words—breakfast and lunch—into one new word. It is therefore a meal eaten between breakfast time and lunch, and is valid only if taken between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Writer GuzBeringer, in his article in Hunter’s Weekly in 1895, described
brunch, or a Sunday meal, thus:
“It would eliminate the need to get up early on Sunday. It would make life brighter for Saturday night carousers. It would promote human happiness in other ways. Brunches is cheerful, sociable and inciting and talk compelling, puts one in good temper. It makes you satisfied with yourself and your fellow beings. It sweeps away the worries and cobwebs of the week.”In line with this description, the dictionary says that brunch is a “meal eaten later in the day than breakfast and earlier than lunch, replacing both meals, and often consisting of some foods that would normally be eaten at breakfast and some foods that would normally be eaten at lunch.”

Brunch combines the health benefits of breakfast and lunch at the same time. This is also financially beneficial because its cost as one meal is way below that of the combined cost of two meals. Besides, the meal is fully utilized as there is more time for its digestion without any other meal that can be ingested. In some ways, brunch is an excellent way to get protein needed by the body, with some foods serving as a good source of
Omega 3 fatty acids.
