It is inevitable for all people of different ages to watch what they eat and look after their diet. Moreover, it is a must for sportsmen and every person who engage in sports activities to be reminded of the proper foods they have to take in. It is their responsibility to maintain a healthy and balanced diet since they live a healthy and active lifestyle. At that, they should always bear in mind the non-recommended food additives that one should avoid to include in his healthy and balanced diet.
One of the food additives that are not very much recommended but almost all people are ignorant of is caffeine. Yes, caffeine is one food additive we must not take in. There are quite a number of coffee and tea addicts all over the world, but it is uncertain whether or not they are aware of the dangers that caffeine may bring into their body systems. Caffeine is a stimulant found in tea, coffee, cocoa, and some soft drinks which temporarily raises blood pressure which makes the body more active for a certain period of time. Excessive intake of these goods may result to insomnia, nervousness, palpitation, and heart disease. Also, it causes calcium to be extracted from the bones, which may lead to osteoporosis which greatly affect women. Caffeine may also increase infertility and affect reproduction and pregnancy.
Monosodium Glutamate or MSG is another food additive that is highly discouraged by experts. It is a food additive which adds to the flavour of protein-rich foods, which are the recommended foods for active people like sportsmen. Too much MSG in your everyday meal can cause headache, chest pain, seizures, nausea, burning sensation in the forearms and at the back of the head. We must take note that children are more sensitive to MSG than adults, as it may greatly affect the nerve cells.
The use of artificial sweeteners is also discouraged though it appears that it helps you lose weight by not taking in the fats and calories. These artificial sweeteners give our food the sweet flavour to it without the calories from sugar. What we do not know and are aware about is that when we eat sweet foods without taking in the calories, our body will tend to crave for the calories which will push us to eat more. This only means that you will probably gain more weight when using artificial sweeteners in your diet as compared to using sugar as your default sweetener. This is not recommended for active people especially sportsmen and athletes as they are obliged to maintain a certain weight. It is really quite difficult to control oneself when eating sweets and desserts.
There are a lot more food additives that everyone must avoid, such as artificial coloring, nitrates and nitrites, and pesticides which may also cause harm to our body system. It is a must for everyone, especially the sportsmen to keep these things in mind and try not to include these additives to their diet. These are unnecessary additives for our meals and unnecessary in our healthy lifestyles.
