The Benefits of Nuts and Dried Fruit

Dried fruit and nuts are two of the best ways to keep up with good nutrition.  They are very portable, they can be stored for long periods of time, and they are also very nutritious.

It is not a big burden to carry nuts and dried fruit in your bag no matter where you go because they are light weight and particularly small in size.  This makes them the perfect snack to bring along during your regular visits to the gym, your outdoor treks on your mountain bike, or when you are simply out on your daily jogging routine.  Nuts and dried fruit can easily fit into any small belt bag or arm bag that you fancy without causing you any inconvenience. You will be able to replenish your body with nutritious food when you need it, no matter where you happen to be at the time.  This is very important because getting your nutrients would not help very much in helping your body recover from the strain of your workout if you take them too long after you have finished.

The ability of nuts and dried fruit to stay edible and tasty even when stored for extended periods is a great benefit too.  This will allow you to store any number of the different kinds of nuts and dried fruit in your kitchen without having to worry about spoiling and wasting any of them.  With a good stock of nuts and dried fruit, you can mix and match them to suit your particular craving for any day of the week.  This will make your snacks always exciting and never boring.  You will never get tired of your snacks because you will always have a different snack every time you work out.

In terms of nutrition, nuts contain a healthy serving of vitamins and minerals.  They are one of the finest sources of the antioxidant riboflavin (vitamin B2) and also of vitamin E.  They are also very good sources of necessary minerals such as potassium and magnesium and also copper and phosphorous.  Nuts can even supply you with a good helping of fiber and protein.

Nuts also contain linolenic acids as well as linoleic acids.  These fatty acids are very important for the body’s growth as well as managing its blood pressure.  They are also useful in promoting beautiful hair and healthy skin as well as strengthening the immunity capabilities of the body.

For their part, dried fruit contain just as much nutrients as their bigger fresh counterparts.  They have different vitamins such as vitamin A and some of the B vitamins, and they also have pantothenic acid.  In terms of essential minerals, dried fruit can provide good doses of iron, copper, and calcium. There are also some that contain potassium and phosphorous.  In addition to being just as healthy as fresh fruit, dried fruit takes a step ahead of fresh fruit by being a lot more flavorful.  The drying or dehydrating process that the fruit goes through to becoming dried fruit takes away much of the water from it.  Thus, dried fruit has a stronger, more concentrated flavor.
