The Best Summer Sports

best summer sports

Summer is here and there is no better way to enjoy it than to go out and play some sports. But there are so many sports to choose from that you might not have time to try them all out.  To make your choice a little easier, here is a run down of the best summer sports you can try out.

One of the best summer sports you can play is beach volleyball. You can play it at the beach, the best place to be in the summer, and it is a great outdoor sport as well.  Beach volleyball usually requires only two players for each team, so it should be easy to find friends that you can play with.  It will require a volleyball court and volleyball net though finding an available playing area could prove a bit difficult on some beaches.  Beach volleyball uses practically the same rules as the regular indoor volleyball game:  points are scored by hitting the ball into the opponent’s side of the court, the ball cannot be hit by the same team for three consecutive times, and no player can hit the ball two consecutive times.  Some differences between beach volleyball and indoor volleyball are: a match is made up of only 3 sets instead of 5, a set is only up to 21 points instead of 25, and teams in beach volleyball change sides every time that the total of their scores reaches a multiple of 7.

Another cool summer sport you could enjoy with your friends is kayaking.  This sport involves using a kayak to race across a body of water.  Kayaking can be done on rapids, on the ocean, or even on lakes. Among these three, white water kayaking on rapids is the most exciting one and could also be the most demanding one, depending on the whitewater grade of the rapid you are planning to tread.  River rapids where you can go kayaking are given white water classifications in order to define their difficulty and therefore guide you as to whether you can handle the river rapid or not.  These classifications are graded from 1 to 6 where 1 is the easiest level and 6 is the most difficult level.  If you are a beginner, it is of course best to start out on a level 1 river. This is the kind of river that only has slow moving ripples.  This level is so easy that it is not even classified to be a form of whitewater.  The second level will probably provide a bit more excitement for your summer escapade.  It is considered to provide at least a small amount of challenge for kayakers.  Take note though, you should never ever go into a level 6 rapid.  These rapids are considered to be extremely dangerous and almost impossible to ride on.  These rapids are high risk rivers and riding on them could potentially lead to serious injury and even death.  An example of a level 6 rapid is the Niagara Falls in New York.
