Sports in the cities

Everybody has a problem in trying to balance time for play and time for work.  It is very difficult to allot time for family, work, and social engagements while still having enough time for recreational and fitness activities such as sports especially in the city.  It is especially difficult to maintain a good balance among all these activities and still be able to improve your sports performance.  But then, it is a task that must be done, and one that must be done right.

In order to make the most of your allotted time to improve your sports performance, you should have a carefully planned training schedule.  You should have specific goals that you can aim for week by week.  It should also have notes on the intensity of the training that you are going to be putting in.  But although this schedule is specific, it should also be flexible.  You do have other commitments and you should be able to modify your schedule when things such as emergency meetings and bad weather crops up.

Also try to include your recovery days in your sports training schedule.  Try to schedule these days on the times when you are travelling out of the city or during commitments or obligations where you will not have time for your sports training.  Having time for your body to recover is very important in improving your sports performance.  Training too much and too hard could cause the quality of your training to decrease immensely.

When setting your goals, try to set them conservatively.  The more feasible your goals are the better chances you have in achieving them.  This will be a great motivational factor.  Remember that consistently being able to meet your modest goals feels a lot better than falling short of very high and lofty goals.  After all, you can always set the bar a little higher after you have crossed it.

To make even more time for your sports training, you can actually incorporate it into your daily routine.  For example, you can run or jog on your way to work.  You can also run from work to your home.  Incidentally, running is a sport itself and it is a simple yet very challenging one that is quite appropriate for those with very limited time on their hands.

Another example of incorporating training into your daily routine is to take the stairs instead of the elevator.  Try to take as many steps of the stairs as you can with a single lunge without hurting yourself.  This way, you get the additional training that you need while still getting to your destination in a relatively speedy manner.

It would also be a good idea if you could plan to do your training in the morning before you go off to work.  This way, you would be in a much more productive state for the rest of the day.  If there are any unscheduled matters that happen during the day, you will not have to worry about missing your sports training.  However, if you still don’t have enough time in the morning, you could split your training time in half and do the rest in the afternoon.  You could do your cardio training in the morning and then finish your weight training in the afternoon.
