The summer heat is out and what better way to drench it than with an exciting round of the
best water sports available.
There is a huge number of
water sports that you could choose to enjoy in the summer. You will surely find one that will give you hours of fun and provide you countless moments of excitement and exhilaration. You can even choose among three different
categories of water sports: those that are played on the water also called surface water sports, those that are engaged in the water, and those that are enjoyed under the water.
Water sports that are played on the water include activities such as wakeboarding, sailing, surfing, and fishing. Wakeboarding and surfing are relatively challenging sports that require balance and skill on the part of the participant. Wakeboarding involves the participant being pulled across a body of water by a motor boat while riding a wakeboard. In wakeboarding, both the rider and the person operating the motor boat must be in sync in order to get the most out of the sport. Surfing on the other hand involves riding a surfboard across the water with the use of a wave. It does not require a separate motorboat and an extra person like wakeboarding does.
Water sports that are played in the water include the most popular water sport of all: swimming. This water sport is also generally regarded as one of the best exercises anybody can do because it has the unique characteristic of being able to work more parts of the body than any other exercise. Another water sport that is played in the water is water polo. This is a team sport that needs 6 players and a goal keeper for each team. Water polo is very much like ice hockey except that there are no sticks involved and the players swim across the pool to move, instead of skating on a rink. You might also want to try diving if you are looking for an exciting sport to
play in the water. Diving is the sport where you can combine some acrobatic moves as you jumped into the water. This sport requires flexibility, gymnastic skill, and depth awareness.
The third
group of water sports you can enjoy is the group of under water sports. The most popular sport in this group is scuba diving, a sport that got its name from the acronym of the main gear that is used here: the Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. Scuba diving involves swimming under water for an extended period of time with the help of a scuba set. Scuba diving is usually more enjoyable when incorporated with other diving activities such as diving into caves and diving into shipwrecks. Another under water sport is under water hockey, which is also sometimes called “octopush”. Just like regular hockey, underwater hockey aims to shoot the hockey puck into a goal. The players use snorkels and swimming fins to help them navigate across the bottom of the pool where the game is played. Unlike hockey though, the stick used in water hockey is very short and is handled by only one hand.
