A lot of
outdoor sports are non-competitive in nature in which the player’s only competitor is himself. Imagine becoming part of the outdoor world, and you will have a feeling of well-being. Any form of outdoor sports needs practice, and once you know how to do it, you will be rewarded with a sense of achievement and a feeling of being alive after coming home from your
sports activity. Some of these outdoor sports range from simple to difficult and even dangerous like those for off-road motor sports and motocross. The simple forms involve, among others, hiking, cycling, fishing, golf, shooting and archery, sailing, horse-riding, trail running, kayaking, and kite flying.
Hiking is one of the excellent
outdoor activities for the whole family because it offers the scenery in rural or wilderness areas, which does not only make one enjoy but also exercises the body and de-stresses the mind of the participant. Cycling can be done with the use of a bicycle designed for longer distances and for one to enjoy sightseeing. Mountain biking also involves the use of specially designed bikes which can climb a mountain and a rugged course. Fishing is not only a recreation but also a professional sport, unlike angling which is covered by various conventions, rules and restrictions. It is a method of fishing and an
outdoor activity, using an angle or fish hook attached to a fishing line, with the hook dressed with the bait. Also considered as simple, golf needs the skills to master it but provides both exercise and enjoyment of being in a beautiful scenic environment. Archery can also exercise the body and mind as shooting in professional shooting ranges away from home. Sailing used to be a sport for the rich but now it can be done by anyone having the knowledge of basic sailing techniques, as horse-riding needs training at the hands of professionals and information on horse-riding. Trail running works more muscles than road running without a repeat of injuries of pounding pave roads. Kayaking or paddling through the rapids with the use of a special type of boat, can deliver workout for the upper body. Kite flying is another popular recreational activity practiced for a long time since the past.
The more difficult
sports in the outdoor world include caving, rock climbing or bouldering, mountain climbing, kite boarding, wakeboarding, snowboarding and skateboarding. Caving, which is a sport of exploring caves, requires cave training and information about the cave, as well as caving gears. Bouldering or rock climbing is a sport of balance and therefore requires practice that focuses on maintaining balance, which is also true with mountain climbing or mountaineering that uses various forms of climbing techniques. Kite boarding or kite surfing is paragliding, wakeboarding and wind surfing in one, where a performer can perform tricks 20 feet above the water. Wake boarding is surfing and water skiing combined, and is an exercise that strengthens the arms, legs, abs and back muscles. Snowboarding involves descending a slope covered with snow on a snow board attached to the rider’s feet. Skate boarding is an urban sport but oftentimes considered as an extreme sport, although to skate boarders, it is an art form, a hobby, or even as a means of transport.
Some sportsmen and
sports lovers find their way to vacation places and hideaways in their free time, but choose those that offer sports-related activities. If you are a horse-racing aficionado, chances are you would want to visit Australia on a first Tuesday of November to witness and enjoy the Melbourne Cup, an annual horse race event, which is a major tradition in the country.
