Here’s an idea: get yourself into a
spinning class and start to lose weight along with other people who are just as interested in getting in better shape as you are.
Spinning is a group workout which makes use of stationary exercise bikes. You will be stationed in your own stationary bike along with several others lined up around you. You will have a workout instructor to lead you through the workout as you start at the warm up, go through some average paces, exert optimum effort on peak climbs, then cool down to a relaxing stop. A regular session could easily last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half.
One big advantage of spinning is that it can be effective for riders of different levels. Just because you are not very good at riding a bike does not mean you cannot join a spinning class. Each rider on the class determines the actual difficulty that the bike will provide, thus you can decide for yourself how much resistance to give yourself. Of course, you should not take this as a chance to cheat; after all it is your time that is being wasted if you do.
Spinning classes are often done inside fitness clubs and gyms large enough to have the necessary space needed to fit an entire group of stationary exercise bikes. The lights in the room are usually specially set up for the session. The same goes for the music or sound settings in order to provide the spinning class with the right atmosphere to help them go through and enjoy the workout.
The type and quality of
exercise bikes used in spinning classes is very important. Make sure to check on the bikes of the spinning class you intend to join before actually signing up. Get on the bike and make sure you feel comfortable enough to ride it for a whole session. Also, check that the resistance control of the bike works well. During a spinning session, you will be constantly adjusting the resistance settings to mimic the difficulty of each phase of the workout. A low quality bike resistance control knob will easily break under the stress of constant adjustments. Some resistance controls on the other hand do not adjust the resistance correctly, making it very difficult for you to achieve your desired results.
As important as the exercise bike you will be using on a spinning class is the workout instructor that will lead you through the workout. A good and effective spinning instructor will be able to motivate you to keep pushing yourself and to stay focused on your goals. Without an encouraging instructor, you will no doubt find yourself slacking off during the class and you will wonder later on why spinning has not helped you to lose weight. Remember that the instructor is the one who determines the setting of the lights, the intensity of the workout and the music that is played. At the very least, make sure that you like the same kind of music as the instructor.
